Yes you could say that today's evening looks someone crappy, but we'll make use of the day to put up Christmas decorations outside. The tree is for next week.

Meanwhile, there's been a lot of migration going on this morning.

If you squint, you can see the ducks at the bottom of the sky
The kids were outside this morning, bread in hand. Mathieu was on a mission to feed the Red Jay (or red Bluejay, or Cardinal).

And now it's time to actually start decorating the outside. While Suzanne is the most gifted to do that work, I still have to do things a vertically challenged person can do.

Once this was done we took a small walk to the park.

Then time for groceries. It's been such a long time since we've done the groceries together. I usually try to do them half an hour before going to get the kids at school, to go faster. Of course it was hell. Mathieu didn't want to walk and Sabrina cried for 20 minutes 'cause she thought we'd left her behind.

I thought that the wine last night, the Lea de Vallformosa was so good, that I considered going on an "Empty Montreal" excursion. That's when I like a wine so much I go to all the SAQs that have the wine and reduce their inventory to 0. However, there are 220 bottles out there so there's no need to do so.

For now.

This afternoon: I'm making a spaghetti sauce, Suzanne is making her "world famous" (Sabrina) Apple Crisp and I'm doing a bit of laundry. I love these moments when Suzanne and I cook together, a glass of wine in hand.

Maple Baked Apples with dried fruits and nuts (i omit the nuts)

  • 1/3 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons roughly chopped dried cherries
  • 3 tablespoons chopped dried figs
  • 2 tablespoons roughly chopped sliced toasted almonds
  • 2 tablespoons roughly chopped toasted pecans
  • 6 large, firm baking apples, such as Cortlands, cored but not peeled
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 6 pieces
  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, dried fruit, and nuts.
    2. Place the apples in a baking pan or casserole dish and stuff their cavities with the fruit and nut mixture. Place a piece of butter on top of the stuffing.
    3. Pour the apple cider and maple syrup into the bottom of the baking pan and bake the apples, basting every 5 to 7 minutes, until they are tender, 25 to 35 minutes.
    4. When the apples are tender, transfer them to a serving platter and cover with foil to keep warm. Pour the pan juices into a small saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Simmer the mixture until it becomes syrupy and reduces to a sauce, about 10 minutes. Serve over the apples.
    Serving Suggestions
Serve with yogurt, whipped crème fraîche, or ginger ice cream
All in all, supper was a success

    Finally, our tree.

All in all a beautiful day.
