Mont Tremblant

Every year we have to go skiing in Tremblant at least once. Because it was snowing we were lucky enough to have some fresh powder to play with when we first started in the morning. It became a bit rougher in the afternoon and the top was continuously engulfed in clouds, reducing visibility to about 10-20 meters. Mathieu and I spent our afternoon on the TGV and the blacks around it. We had a great time.

Happy New Year From Bromont

This morning our little family went skiing to Bromont. The conditions were beautiful, the snow was fast and it wasn't too cold. The view was wonderful, the snowy hills contrasting with the somewhat green valleys.

I'm amazed at how good our kids have become. Sabrina is a beautiful skier. She takes her time, examines the slopes and goes down with perhaps a touch of fear maybe not for the hill per se, but for how her ski style is. Mathieu is not as worried about his style but attacks a hill with power and enjoyment, sometimes showing the signs of a future pro in his own YOLO (You Only Live Once) way. He's a lot like me and is a pleasure to ski with. We ended the day with a run on a double black.

Tonight: salmon tartare and ribs (yes strange mix but that's how it is).

A ski day when everything goes wrong...

It started with Mathieu's ski boots being too small, and Sabi's brand new expensive Kombi mits missing. Originally timed to leave around 8:15, we didn't get on the road before 8:45, making it to Bromont a few minutes before 10:00am. While Suzanne and Sabrina went to do a few runs I took Mathieu to the ski rental to get him some boots and have his skis adjusted to them.

We met up with my friend Jean and his gang which was fun. What was a lot less fun was that Mathieu's skis kept unclipping because the guy at the shop missed his adjustment. A few clips later and my son was finally able to get back into it.

Except it didn't happen.

The three intelligent adults asked the four kids to take the chair in front of us so that we could have some adult conversation which unfortunately didn't happen. As soon as we got on the chairs, the kids were not able to lower the security bar and found themselves clinging to the back seat in terror as we watched about ten meters behind. There was nothing we could do but spend a stressful climb while shouting some "suggestions". Everything ended well.

I started skiing when I was six. It happened often in my childhood when I went up the hill in a chairlift that had a broken security bar, and I survived.

Nevertheless, this Winter the kids are learning how to close the security bar.

I already miss yesterday's spa.

It's not Christmas unless we go skiing

While Suzanne was at work the three of us went to grace the mountain for a few hours. There were a lot of people and the slopes were basically a block of ice covered with a fine drop of snow. The post-ice storm landscape was eerie to say the least, with ice everywhere. Still we had some fun even if we waited a lot.

Ski Day and Zach's Name Day

We're back on the slopes today, and I can't tell you how much good it does us. It rained a lot this week and the runs are not as pleasant as last week. That sais we manage to have a great time. Suzanne even does her first black diamond (intentionally) in Bromont. Considering that it's mostly what Mathieu and I do when we're on our own... We've also gone very often to the snow park. I fear my son is going to complete the greying process of my head very quickly.

Then we went to mom's for a few hours, and to Sophie's to celebrate Zach's birthday. Let it be known that today the kids discover Minecraft. After a good dinner (pizza), a great cake and the gifts, we went outside to spend some time around a campfire. Real nice.

First day of ski

We're finally back on the slopes. There's something about going down a mountain that brings me into my zen place, and I think that goes for the entire family.

After the slopes a good fire (and a glass of wine).

Amazing Day

I know it's Spring Break but we haven't had a chance to go skiing yet. Today's the day but however it's time for the kids to get a haircut first. Here are before/after pictures.

Sabrina Before
Sabrina After
Mathieu Before
Mathieu After
It was a bit drastic I concur, but the results were well worth the effort. Here's Mathieu on the chair, making sure it's done well.

Right after the haircut we went to Bromont for a fun day of skiing.

We even skied at dusk. It's really fun to ski in the dark, I find we see the snow so much better because of the projectors. We really had a great time.

Another fun day at ski Bromont

Today we all went skiing. I got to ski with Suzanne while the kids were at their lessons and let me say it was really nice. We're starting to know this mountain a lot.

A wine not to forget:

Ski Day; Dinner with Friends

Today we went skiing while Suzanne stayed home working at her new job. We arrived early enough for us to do a few runs before the kids began their ski lessons.

I skied a bit during the lessons but I was cold. I decided to have a beer at the ski restaurant while waiting for the lessons to finish.

We were invited for dinner at Julie and Charles's place at night. They are Emily's parents, Mathieu's "girlfriend". We had a great time, and were introduced to a super good wine that's relatively cheap. You can see that Mathieu and Emily spent a lot of time together.

Now this is good wine, for a bit more then $25.

Today was ski day... again

The entire family went to Bromont for a fun morning of skiing. We spent most of our time on the "Versant du Lac" as the fast chair on the main hill was out. What I like is that we arrived early enough to park the car in the P5 parking, meaning that we can get to the hill within a few hundred feet of walking, and no steps.

Sabrina had fun taking pictures of Mathieu, and then altering them a tad...

We're currently prepping for Orlando. Our departure is in about 64 hours. Our first few days look so great.

What a blistery day

Guess what we did today? We went skiing to Bromont, the kids and I. Low and behold, Pascal, Kim and family were there too and we ended up skiing together for a while. We had a blast. Sabrina was able to conquer her fears and tried her first black diamond of the season: The Knowlton.

Not to say that the conditions were great but we still had a great time.

Ski and Knowlton

Today we went to ski at Bromont. It rained from the time we got in the car to the moment we got to the mountain. Troupers that we were we still did three runs.

But you can only get so much rain before getting tired of it. We went to have lunch with mom. We had a good time but the food was subpar to what we paid so, never again at that restaurant.

The drive back was a tad tiring for the kids.

We ended the day with a nice fire in the fireplace.
