Karate Day Camp

Both Sabrina and Mathieu are in Karate Day Camp. All I can say is wow. They do a lot of sport and really enjoy themselves during the day. Really, really good.

What prompted me to put the kids in the camp was that at one point I saw Mathieu in the school's courtyard being picked for a fight by another kid. While the other boy was trying to pummel him Mathieu was able to block with obvious karate moves and he seemed to be in total control of the encounter. I did of course communicate with the school and heard after a few emails that the aggressor had a lot of "anger" in him that day. Whatever it was, Mathieu handled himself admirably during the encounter and it encouraged me to keep the karate going.

Hence the day camp. The kids are excelling in the sports and having a lot of fun in the process. Today they went to do some indoor climbing. Really cool camp.

From blue to yellow, and a really fun lunch...

Mathieu is now a Yellow Belt Kyokushin karate student, and he surprisingly have the skills to show it. I went with him to see him pass his belt and was impressed by how good he is with his katas, especially for a seven years old. I'm not sure I would be able to do so well. To pass his belt he had to spar with some kids of his group and that was ok because he was not allowed to touch. His last fight changed everything because as one of the highest grade in his class he got to spar with a black belt who he was allowed to physically as hard as he could. I've never seen such a smile on a kid's face...

After going to yellow, four parent groups and a bunch of kids went to have a celebratory lunch at Score's. I can't state how much fun we had. So did the kids. A real nice time.

We came back home to a surprise. Sabrina and Suzanne had made an excellent batch of cookies.

Of breaking boards.

The kids are at it again. They're breaking boards at school on their last day of karate for the season. Here's a short pictorial. First we have Mathieu:

Then we have Sabrina...

A final picture with Sensei Normand (or is it, 'cause Mathieu's passing a belt on Saturday)

Karate Belt Passing

Today Mathieu and Sabrina both climbed a level in karate. Sabrina went from being a blue-yello stripped to a yellow belt, and Mathieu went from being an orange to a blue belt (now in the same mid-category as his sister). Real cool.

I'll see it when we get it. So as an update, here's what we finally get when it begins:

Just think, a few hours beforehand I could actually see grass on the ground. This is so welcome, as we like to ski a lot.

We also do other sports. Today we still have to deal with Sabrina's karate, and the swimming lessons:

This Friday is a nice evening. We're even surprised when Suzanne comes home at reasonable hour. All in all a full, yet great day.

The wine of the eventing is actually a birthday gift from Mike and Gen:

Report cards are in for Sabrina

Sabrina's Report Card
As you can see she's doing quite well. You have to realize that she's a little English girl who barely spoke a word of French when she began kindergarden 2 1/2 years ago. While she is in an English school, Sabrina is in French immersion in a class of twenty-some students, half of them are French, with many who can't speak a word of English. So her marks in French are spectacular. And while her mark in English is below 90, check out the class average.

She's really good.

For those who are having problems reading this, here are her marks:

English:  87 / 72
French:   96 / 83
Math:      96 / 81
Music:     92 / 92
Arts:        92 / 88
Ethics:     98 / 80
PhysEd:   84 / 81

We are so proud of her

Let's not forget Mathieu who's becoming quite good at karate. I'm proud of him he listens quite well.

His sensei is a great guy.
