Angry Sun; Doctor's office

"The sun was angry that day my friends, like an old man trying to return soup at a deli!"
Georges from Seinfeld. I swapped sea for sun.

Today was a long day because we waiting many hours at the doctor's to check Sabrina's lump. She has a bump in her neck and I already had it checked in January at the paediatrician just to make sure it wasn't anything serious. As long as she's healthy, happy and doesn't lose any weight, she's fine, and that's what the doctor told me today. Dr. Leboeuf is a great doctor, really cool with kids so apart from the long, long, long, long, long, long waiting period, the actual exam went really well.

Once the iPhone battery ran off, and the kids were bored, Mathieu was left balancing books on his head...

I'm getting older and it's time for me to get a full fledge physical. It's time for me to get a good picture of my physical condition to see if there are things that I need to change or fix to live a long, healthy life. I did this physical at Physimed, in St-Laurent. While it's private and we need to pay a huge amount, it's worth the experience. I also a nice t-shirt and jogging pants.

Following is a list of items I was checked for (except for the feminine only tests, of course).

Exams and Tests

A medical check-up is a comprehensive medical examination that we recommend to be done annually. All patients having a medical check-up at Physimed will go through a global medical assessment that may include different medical tests such as:

  • Comprehensive medical questionnaire;
  • Complete physical examination (by a general practitioner);
  • General blood tests (glucose, creatinine, urea, calcium, total proteins, albumin, AST, ALT, GGT, alkaline phosphatase, uric acid, total and direct bilirubin, PO4, cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL & LDL cholesterol, electrolytes, complete blood count);
  • Blood tests specific for certain diseases (PSA, CA125, HIV, etc);
  • Urine analysis;
  • Thyroid profile;
  • Computerized audiometry test (hearing test);
  • Computerized spirometry test (pulmonary function test);
  • Cardiology consultation;
  • Resting electrocardiogram;
  • Stress electrocardiogram (treadmill test);
  • Chest x-ray;
  • General fitness evaluation by a kinesiologist;
  • Osteodensitometry (bone density);
  • Screening test for colon cancer (Hémoccult, colonoscopy);
  • Sleep apnea test;
  • Screening test for peripheral atherosclerotic diseases;
  • Gynaecologic exam and PAP test;
  • Mammography;
  • Immunization update;
  • Visual exam;
  • Others (if necessary).

I had to do a full exercise on bike, sit ups, cardio and other. What I've learned from that is that I'm in much better shape then I thought, only need to lose 5-10 lbs more, and need to increase my cardio, which I am. The rest I'll know in a few weeks. Hopefully nothing is lurking in there.

All in all, Physimed is just great.

I made it home around 13:30, starving. Suzanne was giving Mathieu a haircut. Suzanne went to get Sabrina at school while Mathieu and I started getting ready for ski. We were on the slopes around 15:30. Except for the bitter cold, we had a fantastic time. We only skied two hours but it was great skiing. Everyone follows, everyone is comfortable, I was even able to do a few quick runs.

Ski Tracks:

KMZ file sent from Ski Tracks V1.3.3 from your iPhone 3Gs.

Maximum Speed 54.8 kmh
Distance 4.6 km
Vertical 433 m
Slope 18°
Duration 01:33:31

Afterwards it was time for some good St-Hubert. Remember, I was starving. And I ate. Oh did I ever eat. It was so good.

We all crashed as soon as we made it home, tired, exhausted, but happy.
