Night Terror

Sabrina is sick. She barely read before going to bed (that's a sign something is wrong). She also had an eventful night:

9:00pm -- Night Terror
10:30pm -- Night Terror (the worst, I'm surprised no one called the police on us)
1:00am -- Night Terror
2:30am -- Throw up
4:00am -- Throw up

These night terrors are really freaky. They can last a good fifteen minutes during which she's living through total horror, with high pitch screams and faces of total fear. Then it stops, then 30 seconds later she's awake and doesn't remember a thing.

She took some Tylenol for kids this morning and was feeling good most morning, playing with Mathieu. However, after lunch, she started feeling bad again and went to lie down on the couch.

Me: "Do you want some medication to make you feel good?"
Her: "No, it's okay, I'll survive."

Now of course if the fever gets worse I will have her take some meds. But if we can avoid them and she doesn't mind...

The problem is, she just woke up with another night terror. It freaked Mathieu out. It's not easy with Sabrina seemingly awake, yet mixing dream with reality. My trick to solve the issue:
  1. Hold her tight so that she doesn't hurt herself
  2. Play in her dream to calm her there
  3. Make her pee. We'll try a few times. Once she does it she gets out of her terror
  4. Never freak, it can take up to 15 minutes to get over it.
She just vomited the little bit of water and food she had. Poor girl. We're in the basement and Mathieu went up to get her a facecloth to wipe her.

For those who know the Magic Treehouse books:
Mathieu: "Papa can I ask you something?"
Me: "Yes"
Mathieu: "If Jack and Annie die when they're in a book, are they going to be dead in real life?"
Me: "That's a good question. What do you think?"
Mathieu: "Papa, people who ask other people questions is because they don't know."

The Magic Treehouse book series is the story of a sister and brother who with a magic treehouse live adventures (sometimes exciting) that they get from a book. Really good for my kids age. I bought a series of 44 five weeks ago and Sabrina is almost done reading them all.

Well it's 8:44pm and both Mathieu and Sabrina are sleeping, though I'm staying close to her. While putting Mathieu to bed (couch tonight) Sabrina woke up and sprung out of the couch she was on, in another night terror bout. She yelled: "OMG, OMG, OMG the people in the city are all going to die!" This time both Mathieu and I were able to calm her down and make her lie down. Then for the next 10 minutes the three of us had this eerie casual conversation, Sabrina describing the million of people walking around in our living room. Then she also mentioned some black thing with electricity around it. Then her eyes closed.
