The PPO is offering a BBQ to the students and teachers for the last day of school. Mathieu and I show up at 8:00am to help cut vegetables and prepare everything. What's really amazing is that there are so many parents showing up to help. While I'm cutting cucumber or watermelons, Mathieu announces that he has a loose tooth.
700 hamburgers are cooked within the span of an hour and a half; at least fifty cucumbers are eaten, along with twenty watermelons, thousands of strawberries and countless juices and water bottles. Everyone has a great time. Mathieu helps everyone a lot. We even get the time to give both Miss Helen and Mr. Sylvain their thank you gifts, a red, a bubbly, and a little something for their iDevices. We also give Mme Danielle (Sabrina's last year teacher and Mathieu's teacher in two years) and Mme Sophie (Mathieu's upcoming kindergarten teacher) a nice red as a thank you note for all that they did for both Sabrina and Mathieu.
Many parents go with the 1st and 2nd grade classes to Dairy Queen for a last treat, and then it's time to pack up Sabrina stuff, give our last goodbyes to friends, parents and teachers, then leave the school for the summer.
Before we go we attend a school tradition I find quite touching. All the students make a line, two by two, starting at the exit. The line spreads to make a corridor through which grade six exits the school for a last time, cheered by their younger peers and the staff, all dressed in the same blue t-shirts. There is something strong and moving about this short event.
Right after school the kids and I went to the theatre to see the new movie, Brave. For the first time ever I buy lots of junk for the kids and I: one popcorn, one bag of twizzlers and two bottles of water. While watching the movie and gorging ourselves on the treats, Mathieu turns to me and tells me he's lost his tooth. Holy cow. The wiggling tooth has already fallen. He hands it to me and I have no idea what to do with it. So I gulp down one bottle of water (with great difficulty might I add) and save the treasure in the bottle. We rattle it once in a while during the movie, giggling. Mathieu is so proud.
After the movie we stare in wonder at the little beauty in the bottle.
For in the bottle rattles an unexploded corn.
