A few months ago Mathieu told me he wanted a skateboard as his "I did really well at school" present. We already found a place where we could get one and some courses to get him started. We went to check it out today, only to find out they had a major "Moving Sale." I decided to get his gift early for two reasons: 1) the kids skateboard stack was going down quickly and 2) they had a 30% sale.
Now I've done a lot of research on skateboards ever since Mathieu out of the blue came out with his skateboard desire and one thing I've learned is that like roller blades you don't buy boards at Wallmart, Toys-R-Us or Canadian Tire (a bit like I learned when I began playing the guitar that you pay the money and go to a guitar shop if you want to buy one... Not Sears!). To get something that's not going to frustrate a noob, they need to be purchased at a specialized shop and you pay the money. So saving 30% on $140 is a good deal.
The next thing I learned is that the skateboarder chooses his own board. It's not something you give as a gift. So I decided right there and then to advance his EOY gift by 3 weeks. He chose, and even got a quick starter course to begin.
Oh and we did a lot of pool and a lot of outside as well. The pool got up to 87d today.
