Of exams and Astronauts...

This morning after dropping Mathieu off at school I drove right away to Westmount where I worked and waited for Sabrina to complete her morning exam (French) and take her back home. Those days are really enjoyable because I'm not stuck in a car for 2:15h in the afternoon getting her at school.

Mathieu is part of a play tomorrow. His role is an astronaut. Now he could do the play dressed with white sweat pants (gotta buy them) and a white hoodie (got to buy it) but what's the fun in that. So after school, he and I drove to Party Expert to see if we could find one for an 11-year old. They had one for a 6-year old (that didn't work) or an adult one (a bit big). We decided to buy the adult one because it looks so cool, in the optics that we'd adjust it. I figure I would use it for next Halloween.

Fortunately, he actually looks good in it too.  After folding the legs up it just looks great. And he's going to look cool.

If you want one you can get it from Amazon.

Sunday Night Board Game

We played The Settlers of Catan. I got creamed. Sabrina creamed us. We really had a fun time. That's the best way to end a weekend.

Catan is one of the best games ever. Buy it! Now! Play it during the holidays. Maybe we'll even play together. Click on the link below (I dare you to):

Car of the day

We're thinking about getting a new car. Many brands are in the running. One is the Audi Q3. It's a small SUV, fun to drive and has great handling.

Wondering what the insurance is on that car !!!

This is what a lazy Saturday looks like

A simple Saturday where Mathieu and I have a haircut, and some time is spent outside.

Of logs and school fights

It's been a full day. Last night when I picked up Mathieu's at Ollie's place I heard that he had been involved in a school fight. Basically, a kid got mad at him, pushed him down and then started hitting him in the face. His friend pulled up the little bully off Mathieu and he was then able to push off his attacker. Needless to say, I wasn't (and still ain't) happy about the entire event.

Sabrina had a gift exchange today with her friends. She seems to have a great group of friends.

We got our wood! I bought a "corde de bois" with our good friends and neighbors Donna and Sylvain. After picking Sabrina at Villa-Maria, the boys and I used the truck to transport a bit more than 250 logs back to our place. I even let Mathieu drive the truck (slowly, with my hand on the stick). It was really fun. Now we're all good for winter(s).

Oliver is with us tonight. Sabrina, Léa, Ollie, and Mathieu are watching Krampus (favorite Christmas horror movie) while I clean up to close a full day.

It's been a while...

We've come a long way since I last posted something on this board.

We've gone to France, Mexico. Suzanne has become CFO of Rodeo FX (One of the largest special effects company in Montreal that creates effects for shows like Game of Throne, and movies like Thor, It, Valerian, Jumanji, and so many more); Sabrina is now in Sec 2 at Villa Maria and doing really well; Mathieu is in grade 5 and doing really well; Max is signed in with a production company and has one album and three videos out.

Here's one of them:

Last night Mathieu went to see an advanced preview of the new movie Jumanji. The advantages of working for an FX company is that you get to see some movies before everyone else. Verdict is in, it's a fun movie worth seeing (but not as good as Thor)

Fantastic Christmas Party

On Sunday our friend group had probably the best Christmas party ever. Pictures cannot entirely describe the fun we had. The kids had a cookie baking contest, and the adults had a cocktail contest.

Waiting for Pinot...

The kids can't wait. They've even put the cage ("home") together, of their own accord. Still another five days before we become a family of 5...

Sabrina's birthday

Today we celebrated Sabrina's 11th birthday. It's amazing how much she's grown. I remember her as my little baby. She's now a full fashionista, book eater, sport lover, computer geek girl that I love so much. Happy birthday love.

Her favorite meal: Vol-aux-vents.

For her birthday: a purse, a bank account, Timmy Failure books and The 100s.

Bedrooms Project -- Done.

We finally finished the redecoration work on the bedrooms that began last year. New mouldings, new paint, new furniture, everything is looking so much better. Our bedroom is now more zen with a faint green on the walls, oak furniture, along with white and black colors for the linen and paintings:

Sabrina's room is painted a pale mauve, and the rest is in white, black and pink.

Mathieu's room is nautically schemed, with blues and whites.

It's starting so much to look like a very nice house. It's rewarding when a project comes to completion.

Perseids and family adventures...

Tonight we drove 30 minutes away from Montreal to see the Perseids. We parked on a deserted road  somewhere passed Varenne, lowered the roof and waited for shooting stars. We only saw a few meteors, but they were spectacular. The clouds covered the sky and it was time to head back home. It was the first time Mathieu and Sabrina saw real shooting stars. What a fun adventure.

We have a pool again

You know the feeling when you come back from vacation and the pool is green because the motor's blown. After hunting the entire South Shore for the right capacitor, changing the broken piece in the motor and a good long cleanup, it's blue again...

The culprit. For some reason it was really hard to find.

$10 instead of $250 for a new motor. Not bad.

This is how you change a capacitor. Thank you YouTube for the help:

A windy lunch, a submarine and a campfire with friends.

We left this morning for Metis-sur-Mer to visit Melanie, Francois and family. The great thing is, Suzanne's brother Daniel is down from Vancouver with his family and we're all travelling together.

We left pretty early this morning and had an eventless trip up to Kamouraska where we decided to stop for lunch. It's the first time we stop there and it's a beautiful village. We had a windy lunch on a pier. The tide was very low because of the blue moon.

We also stopped in Pointe-aux-Peres to visit the submarine at the Pointe-au-Père Maritime Historic SitePointe-au-Père Maritime Historic Site. We all have great kids they were so well behaved. Everyone listened attentively to the audio information guide. It's a very good exhibition.

We finally made it to Melanie and Francois. A great evening with great friends. It was a great day.
